Our team has built some of the most innovative broadband networks in America. They pioneered the vertical real estate network market. They built and operated the country's premier public sector broadband infrastructure. We offer guidance to policy, engineering, business case development, and operations for both the public and private sector.

networkMarylandTM

networkMarylandTM is Maryland’s high-speed data network for public-sector use operated by the Department of Information Technology. It was created from an initiative to use resource-shared fiber optic cable assets throughout Maryland to provide affordable, high-speed bandwidth to all areas of the state and to provide cost savings to the citizens of Maryland. networkMarylandTM’ has become a network that connects public entities in Maryland using over 4,000 miles of fiber to connect thousands of government facilities to high speed broadband, and supports all levels of government and K-20 education in Maryland. While at the State of Maryland our employees led the engineering and implementation of multiple network initiatives including:

    • Developed networkMaryland’s roadmap, network expansion, and long-term capital projects

    • Completed the build-out of networkMaryland, Maryland's statewide ISP and network services provider, Creating a presence in each of Maryland's 24 jurisdictions

    • Upgraded the network from the initial mix of gigabit Ethernet, microwave, and ATM to a ubiquitous 10 Gbps backbone. This architecture was designed to be scaled easily to 100Gbps

    • Established peering relationships with ISPs and content providers to increase available bandwidth to critical applications used by State government. Increased ISP bandwidth while reducing bandwidth costs through peering arrangements and partner agreements

    • Engineered and deployed distinct metro-ethernet architectures: campus environments (Baltimore and Annapolis), and a county-wide infrastructure state-wide

One Maryland Broadband Network

The State of Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT), as part a public-private consortium, deployed a comprehensive network, the One Maryland Broadband Network (OMBN), to bring affordable and abundant broadband to each of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions. The OMBN initiative was established to serve the broadband needs of the entire state. The project linked together county networks with the state-run networkMarylandTM, and further connected networkMarylandTM to the Maryland Broadband Cooperative (MdBC), a rural non-profit carrier. The $158M project was successfully executed over 3 years, exceeding key milestones by 5%, connecting 1068 community anchor institutions, and finishing on-time and on budget.
